Obituary: Doris S. Riedel, 89, formerly of Rome and Eagle Bay, passed away on Tuesday, September 4, 2012, at Sunset Nursing and Rehab Center where she had been a resident since November of 2010.
She was born on April 17, 1923, in Rome, the daughter of Barton and Gladys Link Storey. She attended Rome Schools. In 1942, Doris graduated from Eastern Academy with a degree in x-ray and lab technician.
On February 24, 1945, Doris was united in marriage to F. Donald “Don” Riedel.
She was the owner and operator of Riedel and Storey Insurance and Westmoreland Insurance for many years along side her husband, retiring in 1993.
While she was in Rome, she was a member of St. Paul’s Church and the Altar and Rosary Society. She was also active in the Rome TWIG and the Wednesday Morning Club for several years .
Surviving besides her loving husband of sixty-seven years, Don; are two daugthers, Carol McPhillips, of Tonowanda, NY, and Anne Seed, of Leominster, MA; a son and daughter-in-law, James and Marie Riedel, of Old Forge and Stuart, FL; five grandchildren, Jennifer (Andy) Kitt, of San Carlos, CA, Michelle (Dennis) Gallagher, of Safety Harbor, NY, Christopher (Beth) McPhillips, of Amherst, NY, Kate (Jay) Torre, of Lockport, NY, and Peter and Sadie McPhillips, of Buffalo; six great-grandchildren, Ryan, Colin, Evan, Jonathan, Claire, and Caroline.

Services: Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 11, 2012, at 10:15 AM at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome, and a Mass of the Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at St. Paul’s Church where the Rev. Robert Kelly will officiate. Family and friends are invited and may call on Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Doris’s memory may be made to the St. Paul’s Church Memorial Fund.
